Dan Kilo for Colorado Governor 2010

Dan Kilo is running for Governor of Colorado on a criminal justice reform platform and libertarian ideals

“The legislature can make all the damn laws they want. I’ll just pardon all the people they make criminals of with their ill-conceived laws.” DK

  • 1 out of every 29 adults in Colorado is either in jail or on probation or parole. PEW Center

  • 22% of all people sent to prison in Colorado were convicted of a drug offense. CCJRC

  • Last year, 29% of all people sent to prison (3,047) in Colorado were being returned to prison for a technical violation of parole, meaning that no new crime was committed but rather a violation of a condition of supervision. Similarly, over 1,300 people on probation were revoked and sentenced to prison for a technical violation of supervision. Technical violations of parole and probation account for 41% of ALL prison admissions.CCJRC

  • 51% of people in prison (nearly 12,000 people) are past their parole eligibility date and only 13% of those that went before the Parole Board last year were granted discretionary parole.CCJRC

As Governor Dan will pardon and release from jail or prison anybody convicted of victimless crimes including:

  • Drug use and drug possession crimes
  • Gun possession crimes
  • Sexual offender crimes where there is no victim such as prostitution

As Colorado Governor I will review criminal cases for possible pardon where the sentences are excessive or where there is corruption or coercion involved in the prosecution of the defendant.

I will AGGRESSIVELY prosecute ALL crimes where there is a victim and violent crimes.

As far as how I stand on the rest of the issues, go read CATO. Certainly, I have read a small percentage of the wealth of information these guys have published but, from what I have read, I agree with the vast majority.

If you agree that the criminal justice system is in need of reform you need to both register and vote as a Libertarian.

Thank you, DK
