Information on the Primary

For those of you that are voting in the Libertarian primary here is what you need to know:

There has been a growing sector inside the Libertarian Party of social conservatives. These people think the LP needs to be more main-stream and has a chance to attract disgruntled Republicans. This resulted in the disastrous nomination of Bob Barr in 2008 in Denver. Before that event, I was what I consider rank-and-file LP meaning that I was registered LP and voted all LP all the time but not otherwise active. After Barr, I decided to get involved in the LP to try to prevent that same thing from happening again. I began to attend meetings, I ran for office and paid much more attention to the LP. I went to the National LP Convention in St. Louis this year with my Libertarian kids in tow to vote against Root for national Chair. (Root was Barr’s VP candidate in 2008). Here is my rip on Barr.

I am NOT a social conservative and I am NOT a Republican. I think that allowing the LP to move in a more socially conservative direction will destroy the LP. I think the LP need to focus on the disenfranchised—those that really don’t vote because they have nobody to vote for. Those people come out of court houses in droves every day.

There are those in the Colorado LP that think my platform of fixing the criminal justice system is too radical for the LP and I think it is those that have decided to support another LP candidate for Colorado Governor.

I think this LP primary boils down to: vote for me if you want to vote against the social conservative movement in the LP.

It is also worth noting that I was the first to announce that I would seek the nomination for governor and at the state convention I received the most votes–that is why I am first on the ballot.

Thanks for your support and feel free to call me at 720 939-8467 if you have questions, DK.

NIce, I was getting a little worried, having just joined the LP this year and having all the conservative republicans jumping on board, I was about to jump ship. Maybe I’ll stick around until Nov. at least.

Suzanne, even though I did not get the LP nomination don’t jump yet. There are plenty of us that do not want to see the LP go down the social conservative gutter. There will me an annual meeting of the Colorado LP the first part of 2011. Be there and pay attention! Go to all the LP meetings you can. Go to the Colorado LP site and start posting on the BLOG. If the LP really keeps on with this social conservative crap then I will be gone too. I really thinks that this social conservative direction is what is keeping the LP from growing by massive numbers. DK.
