Colorado Governor Ritter signs bill to put more people in jail and less people in jail in Colorado.
On Tuesday Colorado Governor Bill Ritter signed legislation that requires jail sentences for those that are convicted of more than one drinking and driving offense. He also signed a bill that reduces jail time for several different drug offenses. I think the net outcome of this bill will be MORE people in jail. First, the DUI measure (as the mainstream press refers to it) will put more people that live in Colorado in jail. DUI is a very bad term to use. The bill jails people for DWAI offenses as well as DUI offenses. If a Coloradoan is convicted of two DWAIs, this legislation sends that person to jail for ten days.
